The short version.
Scribe is for adults and for teens with a parent's permission, the work it writes can be wrong, paid plans renew monthly or yearly until you cancel, and how you use it is up to you. The details are below.
Last updated September 28, 2026. See also the privacy policy.
1. Who can use Scribe
You can use Scribe if you are 18 or older. If you are 13 to 17, you can use it only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to these terms for you and is responsible for your use of Scribe, including any paid plan. Scribe is not for anyone under 13. By creating an account or signing in, you confirm that you are 18 or older, or 13 to 17 with that permission. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, or to someone under 18 without a parent's or guardian's permission, we close it.
2. Your account
An account belongs to one person. You sign in with a code sent to your email, so whoever can read that inbox can use your account: keep it secure, and never share a sign-in code. Scribe will never ask you for one. Scribe doesn't accept temporary or disposable email addresses. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or misuses the service, including accounts made to get more free assignments or invitation rewards; section 6 says what happens to a paid plan when we do.
3. What Scribe does, and what it doesn't promise
Scribe uses AI models to work through the problems you give it and writes the result out in your handwriting. AI makes mistakes. Check the work, including any diagrams, before you rely on it. Scribe is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, including that its answers are correct or that the service is always available.
4. Using it responsibly
- You are responsible for how you use what Scribe makes, including following the academic integrity rules of your school, course or instructor.
- Only upload material you have the right to use.
- Don't try to break, overload, reverse-engineer or get around the limits of the service, and don't use it for anything unlawful.
5. Plans and prices
Prices are in US dollars.
- Free, $0. 2 assignments every 30 days, counted from the day your account was created (UTC), each up to 4 pages and 8,000 characters of text (whatever you type or paste into the instructions box, plus the class names and symbols Scribe sends with it). Sending the same assignment again counts as another assignment. Free assignments are for addresses at a personal email provider such as Gmail, Outlook, iCloud or Yahoo, or at a school; other addresses can use Scribe with a paid plan. Addresses that deliver to the same inbox (for example with a +tag, or Gmail's dots) share one free allowance, counted from the first account made for that inbox.
- Plus, $9.99 a month or $89.99 a year. About 25–30 typical assignments a month, each up to 12 pages. Yearly billing pays for twelve months at once; the allowance is still monthly, starting again on the same day each month.
A paid plan is an allowance of the AI usage your assignments consume, not a count of assignments: long or many-page assignments use more of it. How many you get depends on what you send, so the numbers above are typical, not promised. Scribe shows how much of your allowance you have used and the date it starts again: for a paid plan, every month from the day your billing began, on yearly billing too; for the free plan, every 30 days from the day your account was created. Unused allowance doesn't carry over, except bonus assignments from invitations (section 10).
What counts. The AI's work on an assignment counts once it produces an answer, including a reply that finds nothing to solve and one cut short because the assignment asked for more than fits in a single reply. An assignment you cancel while Scribe is still solving it counts, at the most the unfinished work could have used, because the AI provider may still charge for it. Failures on Scribe's side or an AI provider's don't count, and don't use up a free assignment, up to a limit in each period; past that limit they count too, so the service can't be run up on purpose.
6. Billing, renewal and cancellation
- Automatic renewal. A paid plan renews each month, or each year on yearly billing, on the day you subscribed (or on that month's last day, if it's shorter), and your payment method is charged your subscription's price each time until you cancel. Payments are processed by Stripe; Scribe never sees or stores your card number.
- Cancel any time from Manage billing in Scribe, or email us if you can't sign in. You keep your plan until the end of the month you have already paid for, or of the year on yearly billing, and you are not charged again. Until then you can undo it with Renew.
- No partial refunds. Except as set out under "If we close your account" below, payments are not refunded for unused days, months or allowance, including the rest of a yearly plan, and unused allowance does not carry over to the next month. This doesn't limit any right to a refund the law gives you.
- Switching billing. Switch from monthly to yearly billing from Plans in Scribe. Switching charges the yearly price straight away, less a credit for the unused part of the month you've paid for, and takes effect once that payment goes through; until then you stay on monthly billing. Your year, and a fresh monthly allowance, start that day. A yearly plan stays yearly until it renews: to move to monthly billing, cancel it (you keep Plus until the end of the year you've paid for) and subscribe monthly once it ends. Moving to Free means cancelling. Billing can't be switched while a payment is outstanding or a cancellation is scheduled.
- Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, your account is on the Free plan until it is paid. Stripe tries your payment method again for up to two weeks, and meanwhile you can pay or change your card from Scribe at any time. Once the payment goes through, your plan resumes until your next renewal date; the days spent on Free aren't added back. If the payment still hasn't gone through after Stripe's last attempt, the subscription is cancelled, and you can subscribe again whenever you like.
- Disputes. If you dispute a Scribe payment with your bank or card issuer (a chargeback), the subscription ends at once, with no refund for the rest of the period you've paid for, and the account can't buy a plan again until we turn billing back on for it. Contact us once the dispute is settled. If a charge looks wrong, contact us first.
- Price changes. We may change our prices. A new price applies to new subscriptions from the day it's published. An existing subscription keeps renewing at the price you're paying, with two exceptions. If you switch between monthly and yearly billing, you move to that billing's current price. And we may change your subscription's price by emailing you at least 30 days before the renewal it applies from; you can cancel before then.
- If we close your account. If we decide to suspend or close your account, we cancel any paid plan it has. Unless we did so because the account broke these terms, we also refund the current month, and on yearly billing the whole months left in the year as well. If you ask us to close your account, we cancel any paid plan it still has, with no refund for the rest of the period you've paid for; to use that period first, cancel from Manage billing and email us once it ends.
7. Your information
The privacy policy says what Scribe keeps and who handles it. In short: your email address, sign-in records, usage, billing and invitation records, a cookie that recognises your browser, and the assignments Scribe writes for you, kept for a year so you can open them again; not the pages you upload, which go to the AI providers only to produce your solutions; and no advertising, analytics or cross-site tracking cookies.
8. Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Scribe and its owner are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, including academic consequences of using its work, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid for Scribe in the twelve months before the claim.
9. Changes
We may update these terms. When a change matters, we ask you to agree again the next time you use Scribe, and you can stop using Scribe at any time. Price changes follow section 6.
10. Inviting friends
Your account has an invite link, under Invite friends in the account menu. Share it only with people you know. Every spelling of your email address (a +tag, Gmail's dots) has the same link and shares what it earns.
- What a friend gets. An account made from your link, for an inbox that has never had a Scribe account under any spelling, starts with 1 bonus assignment if its address qualifies for the Free plan, and, while we offer it, $5 off its first Plus payment. Only the sign-in that makes an account can use a link: an existing account can't be added to one later.
- What you get for friends who join. Every 2 invited friends who qualify for the Free plan and finish a first assignment earn you 1 bonus assignment, up to 5 in all. Bonus assignments are used once the Free plan's assignments for the current 30 days are used up, have the same limits as free assignments, and don't reset or expire. They apply only on the Free plan, at an address that qualifies for it.
- What you get for friends who subscribe. Once an invited friend has paid Scribe at least $14.98 for Plus, after discounts, refunds and tax, in payments that are each at least 14 days old, you get one free month. If an account for your inbox has a Plus subscription that is set to renew, the free month is $9.99 of credit, which comes off your next bill (on yearly billing, your next renewal) and can't be paid out. Otherwise it is 30 days of Plus, starting that day or when a free month you already have ends. Those days follow the calendar, even while a paid plan is in effect. Scribe checks invitations once a day, and less often for a friend whose subscription isn't active, so a free month can take some days to arrive.
- How many. At most 12 free months in any 365 days, counting any taken back under this section. An invitation that would go past that earns no free month.
- What doesn't count. Inviting yourself, whether with another email address, from a browser you use, or by paying for a friend's account with a card you pay Scribe with; accounts made to collect rewards; and invitations while we've suspended or closed an account for your inbox. An account made from your link in a browser where you've signed in to Scribe gives neither of you anything. An invited account that pays Scribe with a card an account for your inbox has also paid Scribe with earns you no free month, stops counting toward your bonus assignments, and loses its own bonus assignment if it hasn't used it. An invitation earns no free month if, when Scribe checks it, an account for your inbox has charged back a Scribe payment.
- If a payment is charged back. If a friend's payment is charged back before their free month is given, it isn't given. If it's charged back after, the free month is taken back when Scribe's daily check finds the chargeback. A free month of Plus ends then, or never starts if it was waiting its turn. For a free month given as credit, up to $9.99 of the credit still on the account it was given to is removed, whatever that credit came from. Credit already used on a bill stays used. While billing is paused on an account after a chargeback of its own (section 6), it can't use a free month of Plus either, though the month's days still pass. If we find an invitation broke this section, we may take back what it earned and close the accounts involved, as section 2 says.
- No cash value. Bonus assignments, free months and credit have no cash value and can't be transferred, sold or exchanged.
- Changes. We may change or end invitations at any time. A free month or credit you've already received stays yours unless this section takes it back.
