What Scribe keeps.
As little as it can: enough to sign you in, apply your plan, bill you, stop abuse, and keep the assignments Scribe writes for you. The pages you upload aren't kept. The details are below.
Last updated October 12, 2026. See also the terms of use.
1. What we keep
- Your account: your email address, when you created the account and last signed in, and which version of the terms you agreed to.
- Sign-in records: the times of your sign-ins and a general device description such as "Chrome on macOS". To slow down abuse we also keep scrambled (hashed) identifiers of the networks sign-in requests come from, never the network addresses themselves.
- Usage: for each assignment, when it was sent and finished, how many pages it had, whether it succeeded, which AI models worked on it, how long they took, how much processing they used and what it cost, the AI service's reference for that work, and how much of your plan it used, so your plan's limits can be applied. Never the pages or text themselves.
- Assignments archive: for each assignment Scribe writes for you, what it writes on your pages (each problem's number, working and answer), the title, name, course and day written at the top, the paper, line spacing, label style and messiness setting, the random number that decided how its working is set out on the page, and when it was made, so you can open or download it again from the account menu, and a reference number for the request, for support. Never the pages or instructions you uploaded, and never your handwriting.
- Practice sheets emailed to you: a record of each time you asked Scribe to email you your practice sheet: when, from which sign-in, and whether it was sent, turned away by a limit, or failed. This is so a small daily limit can be applied and abuse spotted. Never the sheets themselves.
- Waitlist: if you try to sign up while new sign-ups are full, your email address, when you tried, the day your spot opens and when Scribe emailed you about it, so it can email you once when your spot opens and let you sign up.
- Billing: the first time you choose a paid plan, before you pay anything, Scribe creates a customer record at Stripe with your email address and your Scribe account ID, and keeps that record's Stripe identifier. If you subscribe, Scribe also keeps your subscription's identifier, plan, price and status, the dates of the billing period you've paid for and what those payments cover, any pending plan change or cancellation, and whether a payment was disputed. To limit how often one account can reach Stripe, it also counts your recent billing requests. You enter your card details on Stripe's page: Scribe never receives your card number and stores no card details. When an invited friend's payments might earn a free month, Scribe asks Stripe what the friend has paid, whether any of it was disputed, and whether they paid with the same card as an account of the inviting inbox, and keeps only the answer.
- Invitations: your invite code; which account invited which, recorded in the sign-in that made the new account; whether the invitation counts (and if not, why); the free month it earned, when, and whether a chargeback took it back, with Stripe's reference for any credit; and when Scribe last checked it. Whether a friend has written a first assignment or subscribed is read from their usage and billing records, and bonus assignments are counted in usage like free ones. Someone who invites you sees how many of their invited friends have joined, written a first assignment and subscribed, and the free months those friends have earned them, but never your address. If they've invited only a few people, those counts may show what you did.
2. What we don't keep
The pages and instructions you upload, along with the classes you picked and the list of symbols your handwriting sheet covers, are sent to the AI providers Scribe uses to produce your solutions, and Scribe doesn't store them afterwards. Your handwriting samples stay in your own browser, which is also where the PDFs of your saved assignments are drawn. If you ask Scribe to email you your practice sheet, the sheet passes through Scribe to Resend to be sent to your own email address, and Scribe doesn't keep a copy.
3. Who handles it for us
- Vercel hosts Scribe and keeps standard request logs, and its AI Gateway passes your assignments to the AI providers.
- Google, OpenAI and Anthropic produce the solutions. They handle what you upload under their own terms and may keep it briefly to monitor for abuse. Where a provider accepts one, Scribe sends a scrambled account tag with each request, never your email.
- Supabase stores Scribe's database.
- Resend delivers Scribe's emails to your email address: your sign-in codes, your practice sheet when you ask Scribe to email it to you, and the email saying your waitlist spot is open. It handles them under its own privacy policy and may keep them briefly.
- Cloudflare runs the check on the sign-in page that you're a person, not a bot (Turnstile). It sees your network address, your browser's details and how your browser responds to the check. It uses them to run the check for Scribe and, under its own privacy policy, to improve Turnstile. Scribe learns only whether the check passed.
- Stripe processes payments for paid plans. It receives your email address, your Scribe account ID and whatever you enter at checkout or on its billing page (such as your card, name and billing address), and handles them under its own privacy policy, including to prevent fraud. It also applies invitation discounts and credits: a credit for an invitation carries the invited account's Scribe ID, never its address.
We don't sell your information or share it for advertising.
4. Cookies
Scribe sets the cookies that keep you signed in. It also sets one that recognises your browser for up to 400 days from the last time you signed in or opened Invite friends in it. Signing out leaves it in place. It is used only to stop an account earning invitation rewards by inviting itself from the same browser. Scribe keeps only a one-way code made from it, with the accounts that signed in or opened Invite friends there, and when each first and last did. Scribe sets no other cookies: none for advertising, analytics or tracking you across sites. Stripe's checkout and billing pages are on Stripe's own site and use Stripe's cookies.
5. How long we keep it
Sign-in codes are deleted within a day, records of ended sessions within about a month, and security records after 90 days. Of the records of practice sheets emailed to you, the daily count and the list of sends it is kept from are deleted within two days; the rest are security records, deleted after 90 days. Records of requests that failed without costing anything are deleted about a week after they finish. A waitlist entry is deleted a day after you sign up, or a day after the week your spot is held for ends. Saved assignments are deleted a year after they were made, when you delete them, or when your account is closed. Your account record, your other usage records and your billing records are kept for as long as the account exists, and after it's closed: the account record so that a closed account stays closed, and the usage and billing records because they're needed for accounting, tax and payment disputes. Invitation records are kept like billing records, and the one-way codes of the browsers an account used for as long as its account record. Stripe keeps its own payment records under its privacy policy.
6. Your choices
You can sign out of every device from the account menu, and delete any saved assignment from Assignments archive there. To see what we hold about you, correct it, have all your saved assignments deleted, or close your account, email scribe.homework@gmail.com. Cancel any paid plan first from Manage billing. Closing an account stops it signing in; the records in section 5 are kept or deleted as described there.
7. Children and teens
Scribe is not for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. People aged 13 to 17 can use Scribe only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian, as the terms of use describe. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 13, or to someone under 18 without that permission, we close it: it can't sign in any more, its sessions end at once, its saved assignments are deleted, and its other records are kept or deleted as section 5 describes. A parent or guardian who thinks their child has an account without permission can tell us at scribe.homework@gmail.com.
8. Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we tell you the next time you use Scribe.
